Our
Vision

Since 2019 we have been campaigning on the Tenancy Ten, which is our vision to dramatically improve the rights and lives of renters across WA.

While some of these have been achieved, the most critical issues still remain

  • Renters can still be unfairly evicted for no reason and have no security in their tenure
  • There are still no minimum standards for rental homes to be safe and healthy
  • Rents can be increased by any amount and are extremely unaffordable
  • Students, Boarders, and Lodgers live in precarious housing without basic rights or protections, and
  • Prospective tenants are required to disclose extremely personal information with no standard protections of their privacy or procedures for how this is stored or disposed.

Additionally, thousands of renters are unable to access information, advice, and support about their rights due to advocacy and support services being underfunded, over-capacity, or just nonexistent. We need sustainable funding to support people at all stages of their tenancy.

These issues make WA the worst state to rent in Australia and are the priorities in our campaign.

We’ll keep fighting until we secure the rest of the Tenancy Ten!

Why are these your campaign asks?

Right now, renters can be evicted without notice or cause from their homes. Many more are facing dodgy rental standards – we’re talking black mould, leaking pipes, no insulation, dodgy wiring, no ventilation and the list goes on.

WA needs to follow in the footsteps of other states and ensure that we have a minimum standards model for renters, and that we can keep people in their homes.

What is stopping us from achieving these?

Right now, the State Government is considering implementing minimum standards for renters and ending no grounds evictions. The moment has never been riper for the taking – we could have these crucial reforms by the end of the year. But we have to keep the pressure on.
